PRECORP TO ADJUST CHARGES FOR WHOLESALE RATE INCREASE
Basin Electric, the power supplier for Powder River Energy Corporation, has notified its members of a mid-year power cost increase taking effect August 1, 2016.
Basin Electric officials explained the rate increase request is a result of declining sales and higher costs across its nine-state service territory.
Basin Electric will increase its rates to cooperatives by about 12.3 percent in August.
On July 13, 2016, PRECorp filed a Cost of Power Adjustment (COPA) case with the Wyoming Public Service Commission detailing the rates for its customers.

Power cost changes will be reflected on PRECorp members’ bills as a Power Cost Adjustment. The impact of the power cost adjustment varies by rate class but ranges from $.009 to $.013 per kWh. The additional charge for most residential members will be approximately $6.95 for every 1200 kWh purchased.
The impact of the change in the COPA will vary from customer to customer based on the usage patterns of the individual rate classes. PRECorp members can estimate the amount of their bill.
Use rate calculators to determine the change in your bill based on your own usage.
This adjustment is in addition to PRECorp’s $11.5M general rate increase set to be effective on or before January 10, 2017, pending Wyoming Public Service Commission approval.
There is also information on the PRECorp general rate case which reflects the rising costs for PRECorp to distribute electricity to its members. This case is currently pending in Cheyenne and is expected to show up on member bills in January 2017.
